The Complete List of Past GOP Presidential Ticket Members Who Say They're Voting for Trump

Midtown Times, New York Bureau – As the political landscape intensifies ahead of the 2024 election, the question arises: Which Republican Party stalwarts have backed Donald Trump’s latest presidential bid? In contrast to the Democratic Party’s unified show of support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the GOP convention in July left many wondering if prominent past Republican leaders would publicly back Trump.

The Democratic National Convention saw former President Obama, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton rally around Harris, displaying a united front. Joe Biden even dropped his re-election bid, further solidifying a party and national unity commitment. This leaves a stark comparison with the GOP, where notable Republican figures are notably absent in their endorsements of Trump.

Despite the media anticipation, there seems to be a lack of public endorsements from former Republican presidents, vice presidents, and past nominees. In fact, after scouring statements and public endorsements, only one notable figure from past GOP tickets has declared their support for Trump.

The Exhaustive List of Endorsements:

Sarah Palin: The 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is the sole individual who has reaffirmed her backing of Trump. Palin voiced her endorsement in March 2023, cementing her continued allegiance to the former president.

As for others? Prominent Republicans like Mitt Romney, who was the GOP presidential nominee in 2012, have unequivocally stated they will not vote for Trump. Romney’s sentiment is echoed by former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Speaker Paul Ryan, who was the 2012 vice presidential nominee.

Adding to the rift is Mike Pence, Trump’s former vice president, who announced he would not support his former running mate following the events of January 6, 2021. In his statement, Pence said, “It should come as no surprise,” pointing to the significant fallout between the two.

Other significant figures, such as George W. Bush, have remained silent. However, reports from 2020 indicate that the former president did not vote for Trump in the last election, further deepening speculation that he will not support his re-election efforts this time.

Bush’s strained relationship with Trump dates back to 2016, when he reportedly criticized Trump’s inaugural speech, calling it “some weird shit,” a moment still reflective of the ongoing tensions within the Republican ranks.

As the 2024 election draws near, it seems clear that fractures within the GOP may persist, with only Sarah Palin standing by Trump among those once heralded as the party’s standard-bearers. Whether more endorsements will trickle in as the campaign progresses remains uncertain, but for now, the list of former Republican presidential ticket members supporting Trump is concise.
