In Brooklyn’s Canarsie neighborhood, residents say their weekends have turned into sleepless ordeals due to loud music and unruly gatherings from nearby event spaces. The relentless noise—often extending into the early morning hours—is testing the patience of longtime locals.
“I’ve got the TV on, the air conditioner humming, even a fan running, but I can still hear it all—like the party’s happening in my living room,” said Richard, a resident who’s lived in the area for years. “It’s unbearable when the speakers are aimed toward the back.”
Sleepless Nights and Escalating Tension
Since the onset of the pandemic, the late-night disturbances have only intensified. Residents like Gloria Samerson say the blaring music is just part of the problem. “It goes on from 2 a.m. to nearly 6:30 a.m. But it’s not just music—there’s shouting, screaming, foul language. It’s overwhelming,” she said. For many families, the noise has turned weekends into a time of stress rather than rest.
Dozens of Complaints Filed, Few Results
According to 311 records, city agencies have received dozens of noise complaints this year alone—40 aimed at De Event Room and another 29 targeting Hall of Dreamz. Flashing Lights, another local venue, claimed they haven’t hosted any events in over a month and maintain their building is soundproof.
