Coldplay Honors Taylor Swift Fans in Austria Following Canceled Shows
Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, recently paid tribute to Taylor Swift and her fans during the band’s concert at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. The event marked the beginning of a four-show series in the Austrian capital.
During the show, Martin and fellow artist Maggie Rogers performed an acoustic rendition of Swift’s 2008 hit “Love Story.” Video footage shared on social media captured the moment Martin invited two dedicated Swift fans on stage to join the performance. “We sing this song with so much love for Taylor and so much love for Swifties,” Martin expressed to the audience.
Coldplay’s performance was particularly significant as it was the first major concert at the venue since authorities thwarted a terror attack plot that led to the cancellation of three of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts earlier in the month. The concerts, originally scheduled to begin on August 9, were canceled after Austrian authorities announced they had prevented an ISIS-inspired attack targeting one of the shows.
Taylor Swift, in a statement on Instagram, expressed her feelings of fear and guilt over the cancellations but also gratitude toward the authorities. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows,” Swift wrote. “But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
In the wake of these events, Coldplay’s concerts in Vienna are being held under heightened security measures. Live Nation GSA, the event organizer, released a statement on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the priority of safety for all attendees, artists, and staff. The statement assured that Ernst-Happel-Stadion is working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of everyone at the venue.
Coldplay is set to continue their Vienna performances with three more shows on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
