Moscow Faces Major Ukrainian Drone Assault; Russian Forces Claim All Drones Destroyed
MOSCOW (MT) — Russian authorities reported that Moscow experienced one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks since the conflict began in 2022, with Russian forces claiming they successfully intercepted and destroyed all drones targeting the capital.*
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin described the attack as one of the most significant attempts to strike the city using drones. In a statement on his Telegram channel, Sobyanin credited the capital’s robust air defenses for preventing the drones from reaching their intended targets.
According to Russian reports, 45 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight, including 11 in the Moscow region. Videos circulating on Russian social media showed what appeared to be drones being intercepted by air defense systems, triggering car alarms.
In addition to the Moscow assault, Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, reported a “mass” drone attack on his region. However, he stated that all 23 drones were destroyed before they could cause any damage.
The drone attacks coincide with ongoing efforts by Ukrainian forces to advance into Russia’s western Kursk region, further intensifying the conflict.
