Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Unveils Class of 2026 During ‘American Idol’ Broadcast

Date:

The Midtown Times, Entertainment – The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame officially announced its Class of 2026 on Monday night, continuing its recent tradition of revealing inductees live on American Idol. The announcement was delivered by host Ryan Seacrest alongside music icon Lionel Richie, himself a Hall of Fame inductee.

Out of 17 nominees this year, a diverse and influential group of artists earned induction in the performers category. The Class of 2026 includes pop-rock powerhouse Phil Collins, punk and New Wave figure Billy Idol, and heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. Also joining the Hall are genre-defining acts such as Joy Division and New Order, Britpop giants Oasis, R&B group Sade, soul great Luther Vandross, and hip-hop pioneers Wu-Tang Clan.

Beyond the performer category, the Hall also recognized a wide range of influential figures across genres and eras. The Early Influence Award will honor trailblazers including salsa legend Celia Cruz, Afrobeat innovator Fela Kuti, hip-hop icons Queen Latifah and MC Lyte, and country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons.

The Musical Excellence Award will be presented to acclaimed songwriter Linda Creed, renowned producer Arif Mardin, influential studio figure Jimmy Miller, and industry-shaping producer Rick Rubin. Meanwhile, television pioneer Ed Sullivan will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for his lasting impact on music and culture through The Ed Sullivan Show, which introduced American audiences to artists like Elvis Presley and The Beatles.

The official induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 in Los Angeles, with a broadcast set to air later in December on ABC and Disney+.

This year’s class also carries a strong posthumous presence. Eight inductees, including Vandross, Cruz, Kuti, Parsons, Creed, Mardin, Miller, and Sullivan, will be honored after their passing, highlighting their enduring influence on the global music landscape.

Notably absent from this year’s final list are several high-profile nominees, including Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Shakira, and New Edition. Despite winning the fan vote, New Edition did not secure induction, underscoring that fan voting contributes to, but does not determine, the outcome.

With the Class of 2026, the Rock Hall continues to reflect a broad spectrum of musical innovation, honoring artists whose work has shaped generations across genres and cultures.
