FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique — Thousands of music lovers gathered in Fort-de-France on July 4 as Magnum Band delivered a memorable performance during the 55e Festival Culturel de Fort-de-France, known as La Nuit Caraïbe. Organized by the City of Fort-de-France, the festival celebrated Caribbean culture while honoring one of Haiti’s most legendary musical institutions.
The evening featured an energetic performance by Magnum Band, with Clinton Benoit and longtime band member Nestor Azerot leading the vocals. Their powerful performances, stage presence, and interaction with the audience kept the crowd engaged throughout the night, demonstrating that Magnum Band continues to captivate audiences while preserving the signature sound that has defined the group for generations.
Festivalgoers enthusiastically sang along to the band’s classic hits, transforming the event into a celebration of Haitian compas and Caribbean unity. The overwhelming turnout reflected the deep appreciation Martinique continues to have for Haitian music and the enduring influence of Magnum Band across the region.
Beyond the music, the concert became a moving tribute to the late Dadou Pasquet, the legendary founder, guitarist, composer, and singer whose vision established Magnum Band as one of the Caribbean’s most respected bands. Throughout the evening, Martinique honored his extraordinary musical legacy and the lasting impact he left on generations of fans and musicians.
The Pasquet family was also present for the occasion. Drummer Tico Pasquet, who co-founded Magnum Band alongside his brother Dadou, continued to provide the rhythmic foundation that has long defined the band’s sound. Joining him were Dadou Pasquet’s wife, Evelyne Pasquet, and their son, Elijah Pasquet, whose presence made the tribute even more meaningful.
For those in attendance, the concert represented more than a performance. It was a celebration of history, resilience, and cultural pride, highlighting Magnum Band’s ability to bridge generations through music. As Clinton Benoit, Nestor Azerot, and the rest of the ensemble carried the band’s legacy forward, they demonstrated that the spirit of Magnum Band remains strong.
The City of Fort-de-France deserves recognition for presenting an event that brought together thousands of spectators in celebration of Caribbean music and culture. By combining a vibrant festival atmosphere with a heartfelt tribute to Dadou Pasquet, La Nuit Caraïbe became one of the memorable highlights of this year’s cultural festival and reaffirmed the lasting bond between Martinique and Haitian music.
