U.S. Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Iran After Drone Attack on Cargo Ship

Date:

WASHINGTON (Midtown Times) — The United States carried out new military strikes against Iranian targets on Friday in response to a drone attack on a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions and raising concerns about the future of a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

According to U.S. Central Command, American forces targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, along with coastal radar installations, following the June 25 attack on the M/V Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel traveling near the Omani coast as it exited the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. officials said the vessel was struck by a one-way attack drone launched by Iran. (Reuters)

President Donald Trump condemned the attack earlier Friday, telling reporters that Iran’s actions were unacceptable and warning that such incidents could not go unanswered. The latest military operation marks another escalation in the strategic waterway, a critical route for global energy supplies. (Reuters)

The renewed exchange of military action has placed the recently negotiated ceasefire under increasing strain. Analysts warn that additional confrontations could jeopardize diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing hostilities and ensuring the safe passage of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors, with a significant portion of the global oil supply passing through the narrow waterway each day. Any disruption to shipping in the region has the potential to affect international energy markets and global trade.
