Madonna is marking the 40th anniversary of her iconic Like a Virgin single “Dress You Up” with a heartfelt tribute and a fresh musical release. The updated digital package, unveiled on Friday, August 1, features three new versions of the beloved track—each paying homage to two devoted fans who tragically passed away earlier this week.
The new release includes a lively remix, a six-minute extended “12” Formal Mix” rich with funk-driven bass and bell accents, and a “Casual Instrumental Mix” that highlights the catchy, mesmerizing melody by removing the vocals. All three versions are rooted in the original production by Nile Rodgers of Chic, who brought his signature guitar style to the track.
According to a press statement, the re-release is dedicated to Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, designers of Barbie dolls and longtime admirers of Madonna. The duo lost their lives in a car accident in Italy, and the dedication reads: “We dedicate this release to them. Thank you for dressing up so many of your creations in Madonna’s iconic looks over the years.”
This release comes just a week after Madonna unveiled Veronica Electronica, the long-anticipated remix album of Ray of Light. The pop legend remains creatively active and reflective, delving into her musical legacy while also looking ahead.
Reports also indicate that Madonna is collaborating with Deadpool & Wolverine producer Shawn Levy on a Netflix limited series chronicling her life and career. While specific details remain under wraps, actress Julia Garner—who had been cast in a previously shelved Madonna biopic—recently expressed hope that the project will still come to life.
