LOS ANGELES, CA — Kate Bowman, the wife of former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden, has filed for divorce just two weeks after accusing him of assault during a confrontation over explicit messages she says he sent to underage girls.
According to court documents filed on Wednesday, August 13, Bowman cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending the marriage. The couple wed in May. Bowman is seeking spousal support and a division of assets.
The divorce filing follows a domestic violence petition Bowman submitted on July 30, in which she alleged that Madden attacked her at their Los Angeles home on July 21. Bowman claimed she had discovered messages on Madden’s phone involving “at least two high school girls,” which she described as containing violent sexual content, including “fantasies” about assault.
In her statement, Bowman said the confrontation escalated when Madden allegedly restrained her, slammed her against a marble kitchen counter, and shoved her to the ground. She reported pain in her hip and waist area and described Madden as “out of his mind” while demanding she hand over his phone.
Bowman further alleged that she fled the house, but Madden followed her outside, shoving her into a metal gate and later into a rock wall along the street.
On July 31, a judge granted Bowman a restraining order, requiring Madden to stay at least 100 yards from her and their shared residence.
Bowman’s court filings also state that Madden has since entered a sex addiction rehabilitation program. Madden could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
Madden, a founding member of Maroon 5, left the band in 2020 after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. Authorities never filed charges in that earlier case, and it remains unclear whether Bowman was involved in that incident.
