Teen in Custody After Times Square Shooting Injures Three

Date:

A 17-year-old is in police custody after an early-morning shooting in Times Square on Saturday that left three people injured, authorities said.

According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. near the Raising Cane’s restaurant at West 44th Street and 7th Avenue.

Investigators say the teen suspect and a female companion entered the restaurant, where they became involved in a heated dispute with a group that had just arrived by CitiBike. Tensions escalated, and moments later, the suspect and his companion left the restaurant, trailed by several individuals from the other group.

Outside, police allege, the teen pulled out a firearm and began shooting. Three people were struck: a 19-year-old man hit in the right foot, an 18-year-old woman grazed in the neck while riding in a passing Uber, and a 65-year-old man shot in the leg as he stood on the sidewalk.

Responding officers from the Midtown South Precinct quickly arrived, securing the area and aiding the wounded. Emergency medical crews transported all three victims to Bellevue Hospital, where their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

The suspected shooter was apprehended at the scene and taken in for questioning. Charges are pending as detectives continue their investigation.
