Man Discovered Dead on Manhattan Subway Train, Police Say

Date:

Manhattan, NY – Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive aboard a Manhattan subway train early Sunday morning, according to police.

Law enforcement sources said officers assigned to Transit District 4 were conducting a routine inspection of a northbound Q train shortly after midnight, after the train reached its terminal at the East 96th Street–Second Avenue station. During the sweep, officers discovered a 34-year-old man unconscious inside one of the rail cars.

Police immediately called for emergency medical services and began administering lifesaving measures, including chest compressions. The man was transported by EMS to NYC Health & Hospitals/Metropolitan, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim’s name has not been released as officials work to notify his family. Investigators said there were no obvious signs indicating the cause of death at the scene. The city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause following an autopsy.

While police did not confirm whether the man was experiencing homelessness, records list his most recent address as the Row Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Midtown Times will continue to report as more information becomes available.
